Some Chinese Art

I was in GuangZhou in February 2000 during the Chinese New Year festivities. The year that began is the year of the dragon and there were plenty of representations of this mythical animal everywhere. I really like these watercolors I scanned from a magazine.

I was in Madrid in May 2000 and I saw an exhibition about Chinese art and tradition organized by the Chinese government. Among the exhibits were 40 paintings done in the 1990s by Chinese artist Ke Qi who paints in the traditional Chinese style. I liked them very much and these are reproduced from the brochure I got at the exhibition.
The scans came out too dark and with low quality and do not do justice to the richness of the originals. Maybe I'll try to scan them again and see if I can do better.

This oil on canvas (15 cm x 30 cm, 6"x 12") was given to me by the author after I insisted on buying it from her. Although I felt somewhat guilty of extorting it from her I do love it and have appreciated it all these years. I have not been able to decide on a suitable frame and so, it remains unframed. In a sense I feel like I have it on loan and at some time I should return to to her. One of the few objects of art I possess and treasure.
